The United States will continue to impose sanctions on anyone buying Iranian oil or conducting business with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and no oil exemptions will be reissued, a US official said on Sunday.
Iran's oil exports were cut by more than 80% due to re-imposed sanctions by the United States after US President Donald Trump left last year on Iran's 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.
"We will continue to press Iran and, as President [Trump] said there will be no renunciation of any kind to Iran's oil," US Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence told reporters.
Mandelker added that Iranian oil sales suffered a "serious nose dive" due to US pressure.
Since abandoning the nuclear deal, calling it diverted to Iran's advantage, Trump has repositioned sanctions to strangle his vital oil trade and forced Tehran to accept stricter limits on its nuclear activity, restrict its ballistic missile program and end its support for proxy forces across the East East.
