The ONE Championship once again held a memorable evening at Istora Senayan in Indonesia's bustling capital Jakarta. The show called “ONE: Dawn Of Valor” saw the best of global mixed martial arts talent that showed off their skills within ONE's cage.
15 countries were represented on “ONE: Dawn of Valor”, including Indonesia, Myanmar, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Japan, Kyrgyzstan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Sweden, Tajikistan, East Timor and the United States.
One of the highlights of Friday, 25 October, was Kung Fu fighter and local MMA star Priscilla Hertati Lumban Gaol (7-4-0), one of the 10 fighters representing Indonesia.
Priscilla was already showing confidence before her fight with boxing representative Bozhena “Toto” Antoniyar (3-2-0), a native of Myanmar who trains MMA in Bali:
- “She represented her country internationally, and that's no small feat. His greatest strength lies in his punches; After all, she is a world class fighter. Bozhena's knockout win in her MMA debut match is something to be careful of. I can't relax for a split second, because she can hit me at any moment. My Wushu is very reliable, and I believe I can keep up, so she also needs to be careful. I am also working on my other skills, so I will have options in every situation for victory. My training camp has prepared me for anything she throws my way, ”Priscilla said, before making her 11 appearance at the ONE Championship.
The fight was classified by the MMA media as a duel of Kung Fu vs. Boxing.
Over the course of the three rounds, Lumban Gaol (31 years, 1,55 cm and 52.2 Kg) sought to deliver some Wushu blows against the fast punch combinations of the national boxing champion of Myanmar. The "exchange" of blows between the two was balanced, but when the fight went to the ground, Lumban Gaol proved superior. She controlled Antoniyar on the floor and caused more damage throughout the period. In the end, Lumban Gaol eventually won by unanimous decision of all three judges.
The victory left the already Wushu World Champion one step closer to vying for the World Champion title also in MMA fighting that will be valid for the ONE Championship Atom weight category.
- “I thank God for this victory. It's not easy, but my determination to continue is for Indonesia to have a world MMA champion. I still don't know when the next fight will be. I only know that I train according to what my coach says, and I strictly follow his program. If you are summoned to the fight now, I will be ready. ”- said“ Thathie ”(as it is also known), after the fight.
If invited to compete for the title of world champion, the opponent of “Thathie” will be Singapore fighter Angela Lee.
However, the confrontation still depends on an administrative decision of the leaders of the ONE Championship.
In another of the evening's attractions, Brazilian UFC veteran John Lineker (32-9) triumphantly debuted at the ONE Championship, defeating tough guy Tajik Muin Gafurov (16-3) by unanimous decision.
Meanwhile, Mark Abelardo (19-6) - a highlight of the Philippines - earned 19 his MMA career career victory, surpassing Chinese Ayideng Jumayi (17-6-1) in attack and dominance over three rounds to gain a clear advantage, and consequently a unanimous decision win.
At ONE's 'co-main event': 'Dawn Of Valor' there was a Kickboxing match in which Dutch star Regian Eersel successfully defended his lightweight belt against fellow countryman Nieky Holzken.
To finish this ONE's 'Dawn Of Valor' card, we had as our main attraction (or 'main event' if you prefer) a fight in which Kyrgyz fighter Kiamrian Abbasov became the first athlete of his country to win an MMA title in the promotion. Bishkek-born Abbasov beat Swedish champions Zebaztian Kadestam by decision of the judges and snatched the ONE Championship middleweight belt.
Abbasov thus improved his record for 22-4, while the former champion dropped to 12-5.
