Coronavirus deaths in Italy increase 889 in a single day, total by 10.023

The death toll from a coronavirus outbreak in Italy increased by 889, the Civil Protection Agency reported on Saturday, the second highest daily count since the epidemic broke out on February 21.

The total death toll in Italy reached 10.023, by far the highest in any country in the world.

Italy's biggest daily toll was registered on Friday, when 919 people died. Before that, there were 712 deaths on Thursday, 683 on Wednesday, 743 on Tuesday and 602 on Monday.

The total number of confirmed cases in Italy rose to 92.472 on Saturday from 86.498 earlier.

Italy has the second highest number of cases, behind the United States. It surpassed China's count on Friday.

In Italy, of those originally infected across the country, 12.384 had fully recovered on Saturday, compared with 10.950 the previous day. There were 3.856 people in intensive care versus 3.732 previous ones.
