The action comes as the country rushes to improve its slow inoculation program.

The Japanese government will increase financial incentives for clinics to administer Covid-19 vaccines and will consider expanding the number of health professionals to clinical laboratory technicians and paramedics allowed to administer the doses, its main spokesperson said on Tuesday. .

The action comes as the country rushes to improve its slow inoculation program.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Katsunobu Kato said at a news conference that the government will increase payments from ¥2.070 that clinics currently receive for each dose of Covid-19 vaccine they administer to ¥4.070 to facilities that apply 100 or more doses per week over 4 weeks, and to ¥5.070 for those administering 150 or more doses.

Clinics and hospitals that administer 50 doses or more per day will receive ¥100.000 per day and will be more rewarded for dispatching doctors and nurses to other facilities that are understaffed.

Paramedics and clinical laboratory technicians join dentists on the list of healthcare professionals who could be authorized to give vaccines.

Pharmacists, whom Kono previously suggested could also be called in, and radiological technicians, will play supportive roles such as monitoring people receiving doses, looking for side effects, Kato said.
