Shirarahama, the beautiful beach of Kansai, opened this year
On Thursday (1st) the city of Shirahama (Wakayama) decided to start the summer season of the beach and hot springs.
Shirarahama beach is famous, known for its white sands, spa and hot springs. Last year there was no case of infection by the new coronavirus, reason for the opening of the season, albeit with a delay. In fact, it was scheduled for May 3rd. But at that time, daily numbers of infection were high in neighboring provinces.
As in the previous year, neither commercial stores nor a place to change were installed. Toilets and showers are frequently disinfected and have signs asking tourists and bathers to stick to prevention recommendations.
Get out without season.
The famous Suma beach in Kobe (Hyogo) will not be open for the season for the second year in a row.
Of the 240 people who visited the beach in the summer of 2019, 60% were from outside the province, so the administration finds it difficult to control the flow of people.
43% of Japan's beaches will open.
According to Japan's Coast Guard, as of June 7, 196 beaches, or 17% of the country's 1.121 beaches, decided not to open this summer.
It is known that 43% will open and the remaining 40% are undecided. In the summer of 2020, 40% chose not to open.
Of the 20 locations in Wakayama Prefecture, 16 will have summer season, three more than the previous year.
