Joe “Diesel” Riggs beats Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard in 'No Gloves' Boxing
“Bare Knuckle Boxing”, also known as 'gloveless' boxing, is a sport that is experiencing great growth in the USA and in several European countries, receiving much praise from renowned publications such as Esquire, USA Today, Forbes, ESPN, New York Post, Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, TMZ, VICE, ET and US Weekly, among other American media giants.
We selected some quotes from these media that usually praise the modality:
“Changing the future of combat sports forever”. ( Esquire )
“The next big show in the ring”. (USA Today)
“Fighting in its purest form”. (Forbes)
"Why Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is the next billion dollar combat sport." (Forbes)
“These are the greatest, toughest athletes in the world. The fact that they're not using glove makes them the toughest athletes in the world. I think this is the future of fighting”. (Shaquille O'neal)
On Saturday, October 9, 2021, the 'Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship' promoted the “BKFC Fight Night: Montana” held at the MetraPark Arena in Billings, Montana, USA. The event was broadcast 'live' on the “BKTV” app, with the preliminary fights starting at 20:30 pm, followed by the main attractions at 21:00 pm (US time).
The 'card' had some of the oldest competitors in the fighting world facing each other, while highlighting some of the new talents that the promotion wants to “improve” in 'Uncle Sam's land' and in the world.
At the main event (and therefore the main event) of the night, two grizzled MMA veterans, Melvin "The Young Assassin" Guillard and Joe "Diesel" Riggs, both former UFC athletes and "Bellator" faced in a fight widely viewed by 'no gloves' boxing fans.
Guillard started the fight by imposing the “exchange”, while Riggs decided to just defend himself first, rather than answering punches. Riggs studied his opponent in the opening seconds, until he decided it was time to attack.
The fight ended in a knockout just 59 seconds after Guillard landed on the bottom rope of the ring.
This was Riggs' fifth fight under the “BKFC” banner, which improved his “record” in the promotion to 3-1-1, while his MMA record records 49 wins, 18 losses, 1 draw and 2 'No Contest' (ie “no result”).
Guillard, in turn, has a 'cartel' of an incredible 59 MMA fights, with 32 wins, 22 losses, two draws and three “no result” bouts. However, he hasn't had a single win in MMA since 2014. Since then, it's been nine losses and a fight "without a result". In 'no gloves' boxing, the modality in which he debuted in 2017, Guillard now has six losses and only two wins.
The 'co-main event' (or 'co-main event') on the 'card' brought us a fight between two extremely strong and resilient women. Christine Ferea ('Invicta FC' veteran and former 'BKFC' champion) and Calista Silgado (who have experience in 'gloveless' and 'gloved' boxing) provided us with a fun fight.
Ferea won by knockout in the third round to score his second consecutive victory by stoppage. At the post-fight press conference, Ferera challenged Bec Rawlings during his interview.
The next event in this series of the 'Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship' will be the “BKFC Fight Night Wichita: Rickels Vs. Lane” on Oct. 23, Kansas.
Then we will have the “BKFC Fight Night: New York”, which is scheduled for November 06th and will have as its main event the heavyweight title dispute between current belt holder Joey Beltran and challenger Arnold Adams.
Then it will be the turn of 'BKFC 22', in Miami, Florida, on November 12th, with the duel “Hector Lombard vs. Lorenzo Hunt”, valid for the title of the 'cruiser weight' category.
