Is it possible and safe to combine different vaccines? Some countries in the world already apply doses from two manufacturers

This week, pregnant and postpartum women in Rio de Janeiro who took the first dose of the Astrazeneca vaccine against Covid-19 were authorized by the state government to receive the second dose of a different immunizing agent, from Pfizer. It is a measure contrary to the one recommended by the Ministry of Health.

Then, the states of Rio and Ceará adopted the same measure.

The decision was taken by the municipality of Rio and endorsed by a committee of researchers, without the support of the Ministry of Health, which recommends that pregnant and postpartum women take the first dose of Astrazenca and wait up to 45 days after delivery to complete the vaccination schedule.

Now, those women who received the first dose of Astrazeneca, more than 12 weeks ago, will be able to mix the vaccines and take the second dose of Pfizer.

The decision brought up another discussion: is it possible and safe to combine different vaccines?

In Spain, a survey - not yet reviewed by other scientists - showed good results. Volunteers who took the first dose of Astrazeneca and, two weeks later, the second dose of Pfizer, had a significant increase in the production of antibodies that, in the laboratory, managed to inactivate the coronavirus.

In the UK, Oxford researchers who mixed the doses came to a similar conclusion. But they warned that trials have already shown an increased risk of side effects in this mixed immunization regimen.

None of the studies, neither Spanish nor English, involved pregnant women.

In the Philippines, another trial may be of interest to Brazil, as it combines CoronaVac with six other vaccines: Pfizer, Moderna, Janssen, Astrazeneca and Sputnik. But, is this enough for the national immunization plan to be changed, and allow combination?

Fast thousands around the world are getting mixed vaccines, as in Canada, Portugal and South Korea.

In Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel took the first dose of Astrazeneca and the second of Moderna, another vaccine produced with MRNA technology, just like Pfizer.

In the United States, where 70% received the first dose and 46% are fully immunized, there is already a study to find out if it is advantageous to give a third booster dose with a different vaccine.

Wreckage of US warplane used in World War II are found off the coast of Maranhão

The wreckage of a 1943 US aircraft used during World War II was found in Baía do Tubarão, in the municipality of Humberto de Campos, a city 153 km from São Luís and located in northern Maranhão.

The historic and unusual finding took place during a workshop given by the State Secretariat for Labor and Solidarity Economy of Maranhão (Setres), last week. The aircraft crashed 78 years ago off the coast of Maranhão.

The wreckage is part of the Bombereiro B-25 aircraft, which used to fly between Africa and Brazil. The aircraft was a classic model used during World War II, as it contained good defensive armament and was successfully used in missions in Africa, the Mediterranean and Italy.

The aircraft was even supplied to several countries allied with the United States during World War II, such as China, Indonesia, France and Brazil.

After the discovery, a member of the secretariat's technical team, writer Wellington Matos, contacted the US Department of Armed Forces, which confirmed that it was a plane that belonged to the US fleet.

According to the department, the aircraft was heading to North Africa, to participate in war clashes. During the trip, the plane with six US military personnel experienced problems and crashed. The entire crew died.

With the help of experienced fishermen from the region and teams from the secretariat, the rescue of the aircraft's remains began. Metal detectors, a bathymetry sensor were used, and from this, the aircraft's landing gear, which weighs approximately 5 tons, was located.

“The crash of the B-25D Bomber during World War II is a case of an accident that was sunk in history. It was known to some residents, in a superficial way, but there was no correlation as to what it was, or its purpose”, explains Wellington Matos.

According to the Municipality of Humberto de Campos, the discovery will encourage the creation of the Historical Museum of the municipality and enrich the history of the municipality, which has just over 26 thousand inhabitants.

Shenzhen advances driven by China's economic growth

Shenzhen is an important city in the Chinese province of Guangdong. It is part of the Pearl River Delta megalopolis, and borders Hong Kong to the south, Huizhou to the northeast and Dongguan to the northwest.
The city was designated as a special economic zone by the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party in the early 1980s.
A simple fishing village for 40 years, Shenzhen became the media spotlight just after the first three months of this year, thanks to its home prices compared to Hong Kong's.
The city has seen the fastest growth in luxury home prices in the world, outpacing even traditional property markets such as Hong Kong, London, New York and Paris, according to real estate consultancy Knight Frank.
The Chinese cities of Shanghai and Guangzhou also ranked second and third in the list of 46 cities.
Traditional luxury real estate markets such as Hong Kong, London, Dubai, Paris and New York came close to the bottom of the ranking, ranking between 42nd and 46th respectively.
A luxury home in Shenzhen is typically a unit with a size of at least 200 square meters and priced at least 100.000 yuan (US$15.445) per square meter. This results in entry-level luxury homes priced between 15 million and 16 million yuan. At the same time, demand has increased as concerns about the pandemic continue to ease.
Shenzhen is currently ranked as the technology hub of Mainland China and is home to some of the largest Chinese companies such as game publisher Tencent, 5G telecom device maker Huawei, lender and insurer Ping An Group, and drone maker DJI .
In addition, the city is also part of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) region, an ambitious national plan aimed at creating a globally competitive cluster of metropolises in the Pearl River Delta, mentioned earlier in this article.
Shenzen is also no stranger to the MMA community as he has hosted events such as the M-1 Challenge, MMC 3, Superstar Fight, Glory of Heroes, Kunlun Fight, Super Kombat and even UFC.
Sports fans still remember the fifth UFC event promoted on Chinese soil and held at the Shenzhen Universiade Sports Center and which consecrated Li Jingliang and former champion Weili Zhang.
Now that China was the first to rebound from Covid-19, the country with the world's largest population continues to have the hottest economy on the planet and, just out of curiosity, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Guangzhou have relatively less stringent policy restrictions than ever before. than Beijing.

Visitors will have to present negative covid exam to enter Ilhabela

The measure will take effect from Friday, 26th, and during the holidays in the cities of São Paulo and ABC paulista

SOROCABA – The municipality of Ilhabela, one of the main tourist destinations on the north coast of São Paulo, will require visitors to present a negative covid-19 test to gain access to the island. The measure, released on the afternoon of Tuesday, 23, will take effect from Friday, 26, and during holidays in the cities of São Paulo and ABC Paulista. According to municipal decree, the negative RT-PCR test will have to be presented as a way to prevent the transmission of the virus.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, in March 2020, Ilhabela is the first city in São Paulo to require a test for visitor access. In the decree, mayor Antônio Colucci (PL) takes into account that Baixada Santista decreed a lockdown until April 4th and that the mayors of São Paulo, Santo André, São Bernardo do Campo and São Caetano decreed ten days of holidays between 26 March and April 4, which may lead tourists to seek the north coast. "The large influx of tourists during consecutive holidays can affect the advance of human infection by corovanírus, impacting the municipal public health system", says the decree.

The exam presentation will be required from 8 am, on the 26th, in the ferry and catamaran crossing boarding pocket, the only access for vehicles and people to the city. The barrier will have the support of the Military Police, especially police officers in delegated activity, according to the city hall. Without the negative exam, the tourist will be prevented from boarding. The exam must have been carried out within 48 hours before boarding.

The city hall said that the requirement is exceptional, in order to safeguard the interest of the community in preventing contagion. Residents of the archipelago, people vaccinated with the second dose and providers of essential services are exempt from submitting the exam, as long as they present supporting documentation.

OLX is notified by fake ad

Procon de SC identifies an advertisement, made from Florianópolis, and demands that the company respond jointly for false advertising; scammer charged BRL 5 per dose

FLORIANÓPOLIS - Santa Catarina's Procon notified the online sales site OLX for allowing the placement of a false ad for a vaccine against covid-19. In fact, what the agency found is that it was a scam and that people who eventually bought the product did not receive any vaccine.

In the ad, the seller claims that he brought some doses of Coronavac vaccine and charges R$5 a dose and R$9 for two. Its location is in Florianópolis, which prompted the inspection by the state consumer protection agency.

In the document, the agency asks that OLX, which is jointly and severally liable for the ad, immediately suspend the broadcast under penalty of a daily fine of R$ 100 and administrative sanctions. The agency argues that the ad, among other infractions, violates the Consumer Defense Code, offering a product that is not yet available for sale in the market, featuring false advertising.

“We got in touch and tried to make a purchase, that's when we verified that it was a scam, so we notified OLX immediately to take it off the air,” said Tiago Silva, director of Procon SC. “In our understanding this cannot happen. Despite the warnings, everyone wants the vaccine, so we also demand that the site responds in solidarity”, he added.

Procon forwarded the notification to the authorities to identify the con artist. OLX said it took the ad off the air "soon after it was posted and blocked the user's account" and commented on the episode.

“OLX clarifies that so far it has not been notified by Procon-SC, has removed the ad from the platform shortly after its publication and has blocked the user's account. The platform also reinforces that it does not allow ads that violate the rules of use of the site, removes them and blocks users. OLX is at the authorities' disposal to collaborate in the investigation of the facts and if the user perceives that the platform's policies are being violated, it has complaints to investigate irregular advertisements and remove them”.
