The women's MMA event “Deep Jewels 34” was held on Saturday (September 04, 2021) at Shinjuku FACE in Tokyo, Japan. Shigeru Saeki's promotion has developed many female fighters recently and this was on display in the latter event in which most athletes had had fewer than three fights in their careers. But despite this, these competitors are creating 'fanbases', getting sponsorships and are getting better.
The schedule also featured athletes experienced in the sport.
In the 'main event' (and therefore the 'main event') of the card we saw a fight in the atom weight category between Mizuki Oshiro and Mizuki Furuse. And although the two have the same name, they experience different moments in their careers.
Oshiro came to this competition after losing three times last year while Furuse, in turn, had won a contract with Rizin FF, also last year, after four consecutive victories.
But it was Oshiro, the oldest fighter (25 years old), who prevailed over Furuse (20 years old). The latter seemed eager to end the fight from the start, but Oshiro seemed to be in his comfort zone. She came close to winning with two armbar attempts after being thrown to the ground and worked on the ground and pound in the first round.
The Okinawan fighter's victory would come in the second round, after conquering the mount and punishing her opponent with punches from the superior position, which forced Furuse's corner to throw in the towel. Oshiro won by “TKO” at 4 minutes and 13 seconds into the second period and improved to 3-4, while his opponent dropped to 7-8.
The 'co-main event' (or “co-main event”) marked the recovery of Mikiko Shimizu (3-1) after the first loss suffered in her career. This time, she beat Kate Oyama (1-2), by unanimous decision, after two rounds of the fight in the flyweight division.
In another highlight of the program we saw Aya Murakami (2-0) submit Kyoka Chibisai (0-2) with an armbar at 4 minutes and 16 seconds of the first round.

Women's fights have long been public favorites in Japan, and on Sunday, March 7, Deep Jewels 32 took place at Korakuen Hall in Japan's capital, Tokyo.
The fights were broadcast 'live' at 3:30 am (Eastern time) to the US via the “Pay-Per-View” system.
Even RIZIN CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara commented on his official Twitter account that the next Japanese MMA 'superstar' will come from Deep Jewels.
The event, in addition to marking the triumphant return of the biggest female MMA promotion on the Asian continent, featured the first round of the biggest GP (elimination tournament) of the atom weight category, scheduled for this year of 2021.
However, the tournament was incomplete, as two fighters were unable to “beat the weight” and, as a result, only three of the fights scheduled for this phase of the GP were held.
South Korean Si Woo Park aggressively began her fight with Mizuki “Nisse” Oshiro, kicking her legs early in the first round. Oshiro returned and, after some "swapping", Park was forced to defend some takedown attempts until the final minutes of the opening period.
Park started the second round showing excellent and strong boxing technique. After a clinch job on the grid, Park knocks Oshiro down and mounts. She then plays a game of 'ground and pound' until the end of the round.
All three judges voted in favor of Park, who improves to 5-2 after his fifth consecutive victory. Oshiro drops to 2-3 and is eliminated from the tournament.
In the final fight on the card, Saori Oshima defeated veteran Emi Tolimatsu, former champion of the Deep Jewels straw weight division, in the opening minute. Once the confrontation started, Oshima wasted no time in taking down Tomimatsu. After attempting a rear naked choke, she transitioned to the kimura key, reaching the submission in 45 seconds.
Oshima improves to 4-2 after taking the most impressive victory of his career. In turn, Tomimatsu drops to 15-18, having lost the last four fights.
Yuko Oya (9-8) didn't hit the weight, but her quarter-final fight with Shoko Fujita (1-0) went ahead anyway. The latter was victorious in the judges' decision, with the former penalized with point deductions for weight loss, although the result was the same.
Another athlete who failed to beat the weight was Sakura Mori, but she was unable to compete after being hospitalized. As a result, Aya Murakami was automatically dismissed and will fight in the semifinals.
In the first match of the quarterfinals of the atom weight GP, Hikaru Aono (7-4), an amateur Wrestling standout, defeated Emi Sato (4-6) in her rematch. She won the unanimous decision victory over the 40-year-old veteran, avenging the loss on her professional MMA debut in 2017.
In a 'Grappling' challenge (melee combat), Seika Izawa submitted Megumi Sugimoto, from the AACC Academy, with a rear naked choke after 58 seconds.
Meanwhile, in MMA fight, Yukari Nabe (9-3) recorded his third consecutive victory, passing by AACC team fighter Mikiko Shimizu (2-1), by unanimous decision in her fight valid in the flyweight division.
