“Road to ONE 5th: Sexyama Edition” will be produced by Yoshihiro Akiyama in Japan

The ONE Championship announced that “Road to ONE 5th: Sexyama Edition” will be held at Shibuya O-East in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan on October 5, 2021 (a Tuesday in Japan).

With the cooperation of Chatri Sityodtong (CEO of ONE Championship), Kazuhiro Sakamoto (Shooto & VTJ 'Promoter'), Shigeyoshi Akiyama (Sustain), Yuji Kitano (ABEMATV) and Ryo Chonan (Trybe Tokyo MMA), it looks like they will be able to. to perform “Road to ONE 5th: Sexyama Edition” this time.

The tournament will be broadcast exclusively 'live' on ABEMATV, as announced by Mr. Yuji Kitano.

Yoshihiro Akiyama himself, fighter known by the nickname “Sexyama”, struggled a lot to get sponsors for this MMA competition.

-“Due to the prolonged health crisis, I learned that beginning fighters have fewer opportunities to fight than I do at 46 years old. However, I have not been able to attract enough sponsors to run the tournament previously. But now, while I was recovering from an injury, I called my friends to raise funds and we decided to do 'Road to ONE 5th: Sexyama Edition' this time.”-announced Akiyama, through his social networks.

Hideyuki Hata, ONE Championship Japan branch representative, is also supporting the holding of the event.

-“I am delighted to be able to hold the fifth 'Road to ONE' this time, after the tournament in February this year. We will be able to provide more fighting opportunities for athletes. We will take preventive measures against infection by the new coronavirus. I am so honored to be here and deeply grateful to everyone involved. I hope that all participating fighters will be able to offer a brilliant tournament for everyone. Look forward to it," he said in a press release.

The event's 'card' will be “announced at a later date”, but there is another question that remains: will Akiyama himself participate only as a producer of the tournament or will he also fight? Will there be enough time for him to recover from his injury?

With a 'record' in MMA consisting of 15 wins, 7 losses and 2 'No Contest', Yoshihiro Akiyama is currently part of the ONE Championship's squad. His most recent fight was a “KO” victory over Sheriff Mohammed in the ONE main event in February 2020. In the future, he would like to promote an ONE tournament: “Japan vs. Korea".

Stay tuned for additional information about this tournament produced by Yoshihiro Akiyama.

UFC events may be suspended again in Nevada due to coronavirus

On November 10, 2020, Governor Steve Sisolak (D) asked citizens of the state of Nevada (USA) to stay at home for two weeks or as long as possible to slow the spread of the new coronavirus (Sars-Cov- 2), responsible for Covid-19 disease, in the midst of another outbreak.
But, after more than 15 days, the state has registered new 'records' in its moving average of new cases reported in a single day, in addition to the increase in hospitalizations.
Since then, there have been new 'rumors' in the US that Governor Steve Sisolak could ask for the cancellation of MMA and boxing events in his state, even though they are being held indoors (that is,' without the presence of public '), as part of the' new measures' to contain the spread of Covid-19.
However, the governor did not detail when he would make such an announcement or what sectors would be most affected by the new restrictions, limiting himself to saying that his government "is exploring all the mitigation options available to control the new outbreak".
Sisolak also said that his team is gathering information and working with state health and emergency management officials and economic leaders in developing these measures and that the public "should expect to hear about new decisions in the coming days".
But, in answering other questions about the possibility of keeping casinos open (where the millionaire MMA and boxing fights in the USA have traditionally been promoted), the governor said:
- "I hope we don't have to face another economic downtime like in the spring, and keep some kind of open economy while citizens do their part to reduce the possibility of Covid-19 spreading in our state," said Sisolak, directly from his residence in Carson City.
The possibility of introducing new restrictions in the state of Nevada was reported by journalist Colton Lochhead of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
A new closure of concerts in Nevada would affect even the UFC and Top Rank, leaders in the MMA and boxing segments, respectively.
At the UFC 255 'post-fight' press conference, Dana White was asked by sports journalist Kevin Iole about the possibility of the governor canceling upcoming UFC programs, now that the state of the coronavirus pandemic is getting worse in the state.
- “I never heard anything even remotely close to that. See what we've done. That would be crazy. ”- White replied.
Although the obvious solution to a possible suspension of sporting events in Nevada is to transfer the shows to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, (in the Middle East), where several UFC 'cards' have already been made that year, there are also rumors of that the same restrictions are being considered by local authorities, again due to the pandemic.
So now, as it has been for most of this year, uncertainty reigns.

One Hero Series MMA events scheduled for June 20-21 in Shanghai

After racking up huge losses - which increase every year - the ONE Championship announced on Monday that it was cutting 20% of its team worldwide as a way to 'ensure its longevity'.

However, Josh Gross - a journalist specializing in MMA - commented that the layoffs go well beyond the 20% that ONE announced, with a figure "closer to 50% - 60% of its workers, which includes all freelancers hired" .

It is worth remembering that in 2018 alone, the company had losses of almost $ 59 million, totaling $ 126 million in accumulated losses.

Also on Monday, ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced a $ 70 million increase in institutional investor funds. Despite this cash injection, he said job cuts in "non-essential" areas are needed to isolate the company from an expected economic slowdown.

The extra funding came from existing sponsors and a new institutional investor - a "$20 billion fund" from the United States whose identity will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The Singapore-based organization, which promotes MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing cards across Asia, has between 201 and 500 employees, according to its LinkedIn profile.

However, the promotion that has not hosted an event since February, may resume the promotion of fight shows as of July, according to comments by CEO Chatri Sityodtong granted to AFP: Agence France-Presse, still on Monday .

But even before the return of the ONE Championship shows next month, the One Hero Series, an elimination tournament that selects fighters for the main events of the franchise, will be held in Shanghai (or Shanghai) in the next days 20 and 21 June, with ONE Hero Series 13 and ONE Hero Series 14, respectively.

The ONE Hero Series 13 'main event' will be a rematch between Ze Lang Zha Xi and Liang Hui. The two have fought a few times on the Chinese mixed martial arts scene.

Zha Xi (12-4-1) is coming from a decision victory over Bu Huo You Ga in ONE Hero Series 12 last December. It was the third consecutive victory for the WLF veteran.

In turn, Hui (5-4-1), will make his debut in ONE Hero Series. He faced Zha Xi for the first time at Kunlun Fight 45 in 2016 and on that occasion the fight ended in a draw.

Previously, all ONE Hero Series events were broadcast on YouTube. The public around the world could watch the complete event 'live' as well as its reproduction on the free video streaming platform.

But both the ONE Hero Series 13 and ONE Hero Series 14 will be broadcast only in China. It remains for MMA fans outside that country to seek the results of the events later, on specialized websites.

Ceará Football Championship and academies will be released from Monday

The Ceará Football Federation (FCF) can now go back to work and finalize the new Cearense Championship calendar.

The competition had been suspended at the beginning of March, during the second round of the second phase, with only four games played, due to the determination of the “lockdown” in Fortaleza. Although - since that time - national and international competitions continue to be allowed, such as the Copa do Brasil, Série A, Copa do Nordeste and Sudamericana.
But now, after more than 40 days of stoppage, the Ceará Soccer Championship has authorization to be resumed from next Monday (April 26, 2021).
The new decree of the Government of the State of Ceará released the return of state competition, as verified by the specialized media.
The question now is to know which stadiums will be released for the games, after more than 40 days of stoppage.
Nine dates still remain for the completion of the 2021 edition of the Ceará Championship, including at least one 'Clássico-Rei', valid for the second phase.
Arena Castelão may be included in the competition.
In addition to the tournament, on-site activities in gyms were also included in the new decree by Governor Camilo Santana (PT) and will reopen this Monday, but must respect the limit of only 25% of capacity, in addition to safety standards.

Events with Muay Thai fights will return from June 15th

The covid-19 pandemic hit Muay Thai hard in Thailand, with tournaments and stadiums being the first to close due to the quarantine decreed in Bangkok from March 21 and that initially would last 14 days. With the increase in cases and deaths, in addition to the extension of the confinement, the curfew was decreed.

Without any income, many fighters returned to their provinces where training stopped. The fighters have thus joined millions of unemployed people because of the virus, which has devastated Thailand's tourism, entertainment and restaurant industries.
For most professional fighters in Thailand, the ring served as a way out of poverty for them and their families.

The government promised a monthly cash delivery of 5.000 baht (R $ 800) to affected workers.
But fighters without a specific license are not eligible for aid, says Jade Sirisompan of the World Muay Thai Organization.

However, the fighters will be able to return to the ring soon, as with the apparent control of the pandemic, the quarantine is expected to end in late May and the ban on stadium fights is expected to fall in mid-June.

It has even been announced by the general and specialized media that Thai boxing stadiums (Muay Thai), notably Ratchadamnoen (or Rajadamnern) and Lumpinee, are due to reopen on June 15. The news was also confirmed by one of the sport's organizers in Bangkok, Thailand's capital and most populous city.

Sumet Suesattabongkoch, a Muay Thai promoter at Ratchadamnoen Stadium, said the fights are likely to be broadcast only on TV and that the public will not be able to watch the fights inside the stadiums.

- "The good news is that there is hope for the Thai boxing industry, as it is already said that the [stadiums] will be unlocked by, at the latest, June 15th." - said Sumet.

He also expressed condolences for those who died in the coronavirus pandemic and asked the Thai government to help the Muay Thai industry that was hit hard by the new virus.

- “I would like to ask everyone in the Thai boxing industry to hold on a little longer. Everything will be fine soon. ”- added Sumet.

Dozens of coronavirus infections in Thailand were attributed to a night of fighting on March 6 at Lumpinee Stadium. The fighting took place in the army-owned facilities, despite a government-issued closure order. The crowded arena led to hundreds of contaminations, including the announcer, stadium officials, politicians and army officers.

The military later announced an investigation into the incident, but no results were published at the time of publication.

Prosecutors are aligned with all protocols and security measures for prevention against the new coronavirus. In addition, the opening hours of the competition have also been changed. Tickets are already sold out, but the fights will still be broadcast 'live' for a fee starting at 3.300 yen via TwitCasting TV.
'KNOCK OUT' producer Mitsuru Miyata has announced that two more matches have been added to the 'KNOCK OUT 2021 vol.3' card.

Yasumoto is coming off a nine-game winning streak. He won the MVP 2020 at the annual awards ceremony held in January of this year. In the March tournament, he knocked out Pet Schiller with a strong back kick. Among his achievements are promotion titles such as REBELS and INNOVATION. His professional record is 19 wins (9 'KO'), 1 loss and 2 draws.
Takeuchi, on the other hand, already participated in RIZIN in February 2020, when he won their fight. He also won the featherweight champion's belt at the “Bigbang: Road To Unification-38” tournament held in March of this year, beating Ryuto 2-1 on the judges' decision. Accumulates participation in franchises the size of Shin Nihon Kickboxing, J-NETWORK, Krush, Shoot Boxing, RISE and NJKF, in addition to the aforementioned RIZIN. His record is 25 wins (8 'KO'), 10 losses and 2 draws.
The other fight will be between the young champion Yusei Shirahata and Yuuto Takahashi, a former boxing professional in Japan. This fight will be valid in the super flyweight category and will also be held under the 'KNOCK OUT-RED' rules (using elbows ) in 3 Rounds of 3 minutes, plus 1R in length.
Shirahata has already defeated Takato Oonuma ( PS: Revised for *Ryuto Oinuma ) at the REBELS - The Final tournament on February 28, 2021, when he won the Super flies champion belt, disputed by the 'KNOCK OUT-RED' rules. On March 1st, the 'REBELS' tournament changed its name to “KNOCK OUT” as a unification. At 18, this will be his first fight after finishing high school.
Yuuto is 28 years old. After winning the All Japan Student Kickboxing Federation title while at Kokugakuin University, he turned to boxing in 2014 and claimed the title of 42nd Japanese super flyweight boxing champion by defeating Kenichi Horikawa in October 2019. This will be Yuuto's first fight on his return to kick competitions.
It's worth remembering that the 'KNOCK OUT-RED' rules allow elbow punches and kicks, while the 'KNOCK OUT-BLACK' rules allow elbowless punches and kicks, according to the standards adopted by the “KNOCK OUT” tournaments.
