MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing - Results and highlights of ONE Championship 'No Surrender II'

The ONE Championship returned to action on Friday, August 14, with ONE: 'No Surrender II', a hybrid 'card' featuring MMA, Muay Thai and kickboxing fights that took place at Impact Arena in Bangkok, the bustling capital from Thailand.

Despite this, the event was held “behind closed doors”, that is, “without an audience”. But even so, the programming was “aired” (televised) in most of the Asian continent, and also in the USA, Canada and other parts of the world, who were able to watch the fights 'live' and for free on Youtube and through the ONE Super app.

The 'main event' featured the first of the two semifinals of the ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai Tournament.

Former ONE world title challenger Saemapetch Fairtex defeated fellow veteran Rodlek PK.Saenchai Muaythaigym via majority decision after three rounds of a bout that saw Saemapetch's powerful elbow jabs countered by Rodlek, who - by his own time - showed his best to match the intensity of his younger opponent. The two Thai athletes are now tied 2-2 in their careers.

In a ONE Super Series kickboxing match, bantamweight contender Mehdi Zatout, from Algeria, had a comprehensive performance, beating Leo Pinto, from France, during the nine minutes of action in which the fighters alternated good times . In the end, the three judges marked the fight in favor of Zatout, who won by unanimous decision.

Determined to put his career back on track, 40-year-old Japanese fighter Akihiro “Superjap” Fujisawa knocked out Muay Thai specialist Pongsiri “The Smiling Assassin” Mitsatit in one of the two MMA fights of the night.

The athlete from the land of Sol Nascente - and winner of the ONE Warrior Series contract - knocked out the Thai with a left hook at the end of the first round.

Featherweight rising star Sorgraw Petchyindee Academy, however, proved to be too much for his opponent, Pongsiri PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym, and fought hard enough to beat him in a Muay Thai fight, albeit by split decision of the judges.

In another of the mixed martial arts fights on the lineup, Thai flyweight Yodkaikaew “Y2K” Fairtex had an impressive debut at ONE, getting a knockout over John Shink from the UK. Yodkaikaew Fairtex was knocked down several times, but Shink was never able to secure control when on the ground. On his feet, Yodkaikaew increased the pressure and managed to land a devastating left hook that made his opponent stagger towards the ropes. In the sequence, another left of the Thai shook Shink for good, forcing the referee to interrupt the fight.

In the opening fight, Fahdi Khaled, from Tunisia, had a dominant performance against Huang Ding, from China, in a fight in the flyweight category, valid for the ONE Super Series Muay Thai. Fahdi put pressure on his opponent all the time and prevented the Chinese athlete from getting into the rhythm of the fight, thus reaching victory by unanimous decision.

ONE: “No Surrender” marks the return of Muay Thai, Kickboxing and MMA competitions to Thailand

After a hiatus due to the pandemic, the ONE Championship is gradually resuming its business, and thus rejoining several of the largest MMA franchises in the world, including the UFC, Bellator MMA and Invicta FC. Better yet, the promotion has set up Muay Thai, Kickboxing and MMA 'cards' that have left fans more than satisfied.

A good example was his most recent event, ONE: “No Surrender”, which took place last Friday, July 31, in Bangkok, Thailand, in an empty place, without an audience, but whose content was broadcast 'live' on YouTube and other streaming platforms.
In addition to ONE PH, ONE Sports and ONE One Sports +, the show also marked the beginning of the ONE Championship partnership with Cignal TV - the leading pay television provider in the Philippines - and with TV5 - one of the largest broadcast television networks of the country and national leader in digital innovation - which will allow to bring the competition to all Filipino viewers on pay TV and free broadcast platforms.

The deal will allow you to show not only 'live' events, but also a rich library of previous ONE Championship shows in yet another step in the company's ongoing mission to provide the best sports content to all its viewers and subscribers, which includes the exhibition of Filipino athletes of the highest level against some of the best fighters in the world.

The novelty was received with excitement by the athletes selected for the 'card' and, certainly, it was a further incentive for the high performance of all throughout the program.

The 'main event' marked the victory of Rodtang Jitmuangnon, who kept his title as Muay Thai champion in the flyweight category against challenger Petchdam Petchyindeeacademy, by majority decision.

Rodtang has successfully defended his belt three times since defeating Jonathan Haggerty last August. He also defeated Walter Gonçalves in his first defense, before defeating Haggerty in a rematch.

The "Iron Man" has a record of 263-42-10 in his career. He comes from 12 wins in his last 13 fights.

The 'co-main event', on the other hand, showed Petchmorakot Petchyindeeacademy successfully defending his title as ONE's world champion in the featherweight category with a decision victory over the legendary Yodsanklai Fairtex.

The fight marked Petchmorakot's fourth consecutive victory, which defeated Pongsiri PK Saenchaimuaythaigym in the title fight for the inaugural featherweight title in February.

He improved his career record to 162-34-2 with Friday's result.

Superbon Banchamek fought under the rules of Kickboxing in the featherweight category and beat Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong by unanimous decision of the judges, in what was his tenth consecutive victory since June 2018.
Last Friday's fight was also the third between Superbon and Sitthichai (both had previously fought on two occasions in 2016).

Also in action on the big night, multi-sport star Stamp Fairtex - who left the ONE atomweight world champion title vacant by Janet Todd in February - returned to MMA putting his perfect record up against Sunisa Srisen.

After accumulating three “KO's” in the opening rounds in his last fights, Stamp Fairtex repeated the feat and beat his opponent by knockout also before the end of the first round.

The only Brazilian on the card, Fabrício Andrade was impressive on his debut in the ONE Championship by submitting Mark Abelardo with a rear naked choke in the second round. It was the Tiger Muay Thai athlete's first fight since May 2019.

Finally, Superlek Kiatmoo9 and Panpayak Jitmuangnon continued their rivalry with a seventh Muay Thai clash.
Superlek maintained the score of 1-4-1 of the previous fights and this time obtained the victory by unanimous decision. The result marked Panpayak's first defeat since February 2017.

This fight will be valid in the super flyweight category and will also be held under the 'KNOCK OUT-RED' rules (using elbows ) in 3 Rounds of 3 minutes, plus 1R in length.

Shirahata has already defeated Takato Oonuma ( PS: Revised for *Ryuto Oinuma ) at the REBELS - The Final tournament on February 28, 2021, when he won the Super flies champion belt, disputed by the 'KNOCK OUT-RED' rules. On March 1st, the 'REBELS' tournament changed its name to “KNOCK OUT” as a unification. At 18, this will be his first fight after finishing high school.

Yuuto is 28 years old. After winning the All Japan Student Kickboxing Federation title while at Kokugakuin University, he turned to boxing in 2014 and claimed the title of 42nd Japanese super flyweight boxing champion by defeating Kenichi Horikawa in October 2019. This will be Yuuto's first fight on his return to kick competitions.

It's worth remembering that the 'KNOCK OUT-RED' rules allow elbow punches and kicks, while the 'KNOCK OUT-BLACK' rules allow elbowless punches and kicks, according to the standards adopted by the “KNOCK OUT” tournaments.

Next “RISE 139” Kickboxing Event Confirmed for April 29 in Tokyo, Japan

RISE - which means ( R ) Real, ( I ) Impact, ( S ) Sports, ( E ) Entertainment - is a fight company owned by Mr. Takashi Ito, based in Tokyo, capital of Japan. RIZIN”, promoted by Nobuyuki Sakakibara.

RISE has already promoted more than 130 shows in Japan and 2 in South Korea. Since its inception, RISE has been the main competitor of K-1, placing Japanese athletes at the top of “striking” fights, a term used to designate the 'standing fights'.

After being announced for March 11, “RISE 139” was postponed due to the spread of the new coronavirus in Japan.

Now, the event that is also called 'Rise World Series 2020 1st Round' will be held on April 29, 2020 (Wednesday / holiday) at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

Also added to the 'RISE 139' card was a fight between Manazo Kobayashi, a new WPMF women's flyweight world champion and first female class champion at the Muaythai Open and YAYA Willa Sacrek, J-GIRLS champion, in the category super flyweight.

Kobayashi made his professional debut in February 2015 and remained undefeated for 13 fights before losing to Iliana Valentino in a boxing match in July 2018.

She actively participated in the 'KNOCK OUT' promotion, as a highlight of the women's division and, in December 2018, won a national clash with Saya Ito. In April 2019, she won her rematch with Iliana on 'KNOCK OUT', getting her revenge.

However, Kobayashi was disqualified from the “RISE QUEEN” tournament at RISE last July, for not hitting the weight to fight in the mini-flyweight category.

On her return to the promotion in November, she challenged Tananchanok, WPMF flyweight world champion, and won the world title.

Originally, Kobayashi could have played a leading role in the girls-only “RISE GIRLS POWER” tournament that kicked off in November of last year. It is expected that in this fight she can overcome the mistakes of the past.

Kobayashi sent a message to the fans saying: - “This is a battle that will be a turning point in my life. The opponent is the champion of another group. I want to win desperately. ”- she wrote on her Twitter account.
